Attempt at your own risk! This feat is made possible by first dampening your hand in a bowl of water. You then are to shake any excess water and quickly dip your hand in and out of the lead. The reason your hand does not get severely burned is because the lead’s heat goes into evaporating the thin layer of water! The resultant layer of steam also insulates your hand. One important thing to note, however - it is very important to make sure the lead is heated well beyond its melting point of 327.5ºC. Otherwise, the lead can stick to your hand and solidify, which is not fun.
